The castle in Międzyrzecz is a medieval defensive fortress surrounded by a moat, built around 1350 by Casimir the Great in the place of a fortified castle from the second half of the 9th century, located on a small hill at the fork of two rivers - Obra and Paklica. It is part of the Międzyrzecki museum-castle-park complex. For years, Polish forces were stationed in the stronghold, guarding the nearby border of the country. Today, little remains of the former power of fortifications. Międzyrzecki castle has a specific form although it is included in lowland castles. This is due to erecting defensive walls almost in accordance with the course of the former castle walls of irregular shape adapted to topographic conditions. After 1945, the entire complex was donated to the needs of the museum. In the years 1954-1958 archaeological research was carried out at the castle. In the 1950s and 1960s, conservation works were carried out and the castle was secured in the form of a permanent ruin. Only the gate building and the ground floor of a Renaissance residential house were reconstructed.
