Boryszyn

Go to map

It is a tiny village located in the commune of Lubrza. One of its great monuments is the church located on the hill, built in 1618. It has a square tower added in 1690, which is crowned by a soaring spire. The church is surrounded by a field stone wall and very old trees. However, the most interesting object located here are the Boryszyn shelters, i.e. the Fortified Front of the Odra and Warta Arch from the 1930s. These shelters are connected to the Międzyrzecki Rejok fortifications (underground pavement systems). Works on the construction of the surrounding defense system lasted until 1938. On May weekend a gathering of lovers of fortifications takes place here, which attracts about 20,000 guests. This event is combined with, among others, the International Rock Bands Festival. It is worth mentioning that this area of fortifications is a colossus among European defense assumptions and an excellent example of the German fortification thought of the 1930s. Unusual armor and rare construction solutions have been used here. In the vicinity of Boryszyn, more than a hundred above-ground facilities and about 30 km of tunnels connecting two-level armored towers armed with flame throwers and grenade launchers were built. Visiting this mysterious, interesting place, in addition to the bunkers in the Boryszyńska Loop, we will see an incredibly developed underground world, which consists of stations, barracks, engine rooms and workshops. You can choose from a short route (about 1.5 hours) and a long route (about 2.5 hours). From October to March bats winter in shelters (about 30,000 animals) because of the conditions (darkness and temperature that is around 10 ° C throughout the year). So you can visit them from April to September from 10.00 to 18.00. Near Boryszyn you can also see a drawbridge with a tilt and slide construction.
